California Ballot: James Franco, Marisa Tomei and Others Push for Genetic Food Labels
Yes on 37, a California initiative that would require labelling of genetically engineered food products, has drawn a number of entertainment figures to campaign and appear in ad spots, including Bill Maher, Danny DeVito and Dave Matthews. But the latest spots, unveiled today, reflect the flood of money pouring in to the opposition. Farmers and food producers have raised more than $40 million for the No on 37 campaign, including hefty contributions from Monsanto, ConAgra and Cargill.
The latest Yes on 37 spot, from Consumer Advocates for Safe Food and Water, takes on No on 37 claims that the labelling will lead to a spike in grocery bills. Marisa Tomei, Minnie Driver, Lisa Bonet and Mary Elizabeth Winstead appear in the latest videos, as well as James Franco, whose spot is below.
