Obama to Take a Dig at Celeb Culture
Like he did during the inaugural address, President Obama will make a backhanded dig at celebrity in his speech before Congress tonight.
In prepared remarks released by the White House, he says, "I have also learned that hope is found in unlikely places; that inspiration often comes not from those with the most power or celebrity, but from the dreams and aspirations of Americans who are anything but ordinary." He then goes on to introduce ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things.

Wow you people over-analyze too much. As does the author of this piece. If "Hope comes from unlikely places..." is a considered a "DIG"...then...sigh.

The real reason Obama just met with Clooney was so that Obama could pressure Clooney to make a cameo appearance on the final episode of ER.
Yes I'm just joking.

Typical Obama: He lies or is disingenuous about everything.
In his SOTU, he says celebrities aren't that important, yet he gave a private audience to George Clooney to discuss U.S. military intervention in Darfur, as if Clooney were really qualified to conduct that kind of discussion.

Wow, it gives me comfort to know that Europeans laugh at Americans who put down the US to curry favor. As an American I count on Europeans to have more sophisticated insights. This comment could sound sarcastic but I don't mean it that way. I'm learning that every group has foibles, but that doesn't mean there aren't things they shine at. An American celebrity (Gwyneth? Madonna?) might have put out some ass-kickin' entertainment but even Americans know that doesn't give you license to have your opinion on politics slurped up. A well-educated European might be a snot but they have learned the philosophies and we know it. An average Jane like me might not have done any of that but I can see what's up nonetheless.

Like Euros laughing up their sleeves at uber-liberals who diss America while abroad to curry favor with their hosts, President Obama does the same in private when the subject of celebrities in the tank for him comes up. How can anyone take seriously celebrities who take themselves so seriously when they think the public cares about their politics?
