Al Gore's New Warning
That, and other news, in today's Roundup and Recap.
Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations committee this morning, former Vice President Al Gore that climate change "is rushing at us with such speed and force it is completely unprecedented."
"I just think that the United States is the only nation that can lead the world, and this is the most serious challenge the world has faced."
He urged passage of President Obama's stimulus package, and called for a series of measures to be put in place in international climate change treaties, including a "strong compliance and verification regime."
Clinton's U: NFL All-Star Nnamdi Asomugha, Drew Barrymore, Matthew McConaughey, Natalie Portman, Luke Russert and Morgan Spurlock are among those planning to attend former President Clinton's second Clinton Global Initiative University meeting at the University of Texas at Austin on Feb. 13-15.
Doc Stop: Alexandra Pelosi's HBO doc on Ted Haggard, which debuts this week, almost didn't come to fruition after the fallen pastor reacted with alarm that she wanted to use video footage she has shot of him for her latest project.
Haggard told Matea Gold of the Los Angeles Times, "We were enjoying our privacy. As the months were passing, we were increasingly able to go to Wal-Mart without being watched. So I told Alexandra that we were not going to be comfortable with it and that I was not happy because I thought she had violated her word."
Gold writes, "Pelosi initially shelved the movie. But she was unrepentant about making it.
""As a friend, I wanted to tell his side of the story," she said. "I thought the media had done a disservice to Ted. Am I a vulture, am I a buzzard for showing up at his house and exploiting our friendship? I think anyone who invites Alexandra Pelosi from HBO to their house with a video camera should assume it will end up on HBO." "

Today's Top Read: Chuck Raasch of the Tucson Citizen takes exception to Justin Timberlake's take on the Obama administration. Timberlake said on Oprah Winfrey's show, "Now more than ever it is a call to action to every American to put your nose to the grindstone, roll up your sleeves, and get to work. Because we have some rebuilding to do."
Raasch writes, "This may come as news to you good Americans who are unemployed, working two jobs, worried about losing your job or struggling in a dead-end job you are overqualified for. You simply have not been working hard enough.
"And by the way, in your spare time, get out there and volunteer. It's cool again.
He adds, "In his somber inaugural address, Obama paid homage to the work ethic and values of Americans. On any scale, Americans already work harder, volunteer more and give more in charity and foreign aid than virtually any country on Earth. This did not begin with the election of Barack Obama.
"The last thing Americans need right now is lectures from the playground rich about working harder."

You'll soon see that the debate is not over. If anything, the climate realists are closer to having a consensus.
