The Road to January 20: Race for Tickets
Updated
Barack Obama's team is tapping L.A. donors for a special inauguration fund. LAObserved just posted a letter sent by the inauguration committee that offers $50,000 packages of four VIP tickets to the inauguration, four to the parade and four to the inaugural ball.
I'm told by a source with the campaign that the package --- put out in an email by an Obama campaign bundler --- is a bit premature, but that demand is sure there. Calls have been "constant" requesting tickets, and they are coming from "everyone."
The money raised will be used to pay for things like concerts, fireworks and other entertainment, while the government puts up money for the ceremony itself. The emphasis is on raising from individuals rather than corporations or certainly lobbyists, which has been done for past inaugurals.
Meanwhile, the Creative Coalition is hosting an inaugural ball on Jan. 20 at the Harman Center for the Arts in Washington DC.
Along with a long list of congressional hosts is a lineup of stars that include Tim Daly, Tony Goldwyn, Susan Sarandon, Josh Lucas, Richard Schiff, Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson and Kerry Washington, among others. Those who cover these events are familiar with the stars on the list: Many of them were fixtures at the Democratic National Convention, when the org filled the week with events.
