Pressure Cooker
That, and other news, in today's Political Panorama.
CNN says that Harvey Weinstein engaged in a heated phone call with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last month, threatening to cut off contributions to congressional candidates unless she agreed to a new plan whereby he would help finance a revote in Michigan and Florida.
Weinstein, who is backing Hillary Clinton, denies any threats, but did confirm the offer. CNN cited three officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Recount Account: Jeffrey Ressner of The Politico interviews Danny Strong, screenwriter of HBO's upcoming "Recount."
Bush Pic: The new Entertainment Weekly is a cover story on Oliver Stone's "W," which stars Josh Brolin as the current president. Stone, who went to Yale at the same time as Bush, promises a "fair, true portrait of the man," even though copies of the script that have leaked to the press have raised doubts of that. ''Bush may turn out to be the worst president in history,'' he declares as he peeks into room after room. He tells EW, ''I think history is going to be very tough on him. But that doesn't mean he isn't a great story. It's almost Capra-esque, the story of a guy who had very limited talents in life, except for the ability to sell himself. The fact that he had to overcome the shadow of his father and the weight of his family name — you have to admire his tenacity. There's almost an Andy Griffith quality to him, from A Face in the Crowd. If Fitzgerald were alive today, he might be writing about him. He's sort of a reverse Gatsby.'' (EW photo by Platon)
