Colbert to Michelle Obama: “You and Your Husband are Elitists”

The Page reports that, Stephen Colbert's comments not withstanding, Michelle Obama stuck to the Obama campaign themes in her appearance on "The Colbert Report" on Tuesday.

“I am hopeful that this is going to be over before the convention… This has been a good fight. It has prepared whoever comes out of this nomination to take on the Republican.”

Colbert sang to the potential future First Lady, and needled her on whether she and he husband are elitists.

“Everybody knows you and your husband are elitists,” he started. “Tell me about your elite upbringing on the South Side of Chicago. How many silver spoons in your mouth?”

“We had four spoons,” Obama dryly responded.

She added: “And then my father got a raise at the plant, and we had five spoons.”

“That sounds posh,” Colbert shot back.

He also said, "You're a very good looking lady."
