Oprah's Home

OprahsmansionSecurity on Saturday is said to be tight in Montecito, the exclusive enclave where Oprah Winfrey lives and where she's hosting the Obama fund-raiser.

Her sprawling, 42-acre estate, which she purchased for a reported $50 million, has been opened for various charity events and parties. In fact, it was at the Legends Ball there two years ago where Winfrey first broached the idea with Barack and Michelle Obama of having a fund-raiser there.

"I said, 'Wouldn't this be a good place for a fund-raiser?' ...I said jokingly," Winfrey told Gayle King on a recent radio show.

Her estate reportedly is called "The Promised Land" --- and she does speak of it in glowing terms.

"I really do feel that this place is God's gift to me," Winfrey said. "It is a very, very special place [like] sacred spiritual grounds. To offer it is no small thing for me. There are going to be some serious restrictions and requirements to get in there."

For one, no cameras or recording devices are allowed. Most of the guests will not be in the house, but an outside meadow that features a man-made lake. Security check-in will not be at the home, but some eight miles away at the Earl Warren Fairgrounds, where they can park and be shuttled to the property. Garden attire is preferred. Will Smith, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Taye Diggs, Lou Gossett Jr. and John Travolta are expected, with entertainment by Stevie Wonder. There's also been reports that George Clooney will be there.

Given the level of interest in the media, there has been some concern that the public will think that the whole affair is open to the public. As King said, "On the wire services, it is like, 'Come to Oprah's house,' and you want people to know that it isn't a 'Come to Oprah's house (event).' It is going to be very very tight security. It is not open to everyone and anybody."

Who does this woman think she is??? God gave her the house, huh? Who is she kidding?
How long will it be before she jumps the good ship Obama? It will be right around the time Hillary grabs the nomination.

Yes, the size of this home is waste to its fullest degree. What ONE person needs with a 23,000 sq. ft. home clearly behooves me. She works in Chicago 5 days a week so she is probably barely at this place in California. The amount of energy needed to cool and heat this ridiculous sized home is ecologically disasterous. Yah, she helps lots of people, but I would respect her more if she could be a bit more humble about life in general and more like the people she helps. She can no longer relate to the average US citizen, as it seems she's too busy buying Gayle King and friends $800 leather cows to sling over their shoulders while in France. I loathe the fact that she's become very materialistic. Obama and Hillary can rent out the Beverly Hills Hotel if they need to. You honestly don't NEED all those things. Oh, how I long for the days of Laura Ingalls Wilder....

Oprah is whom I'm attempting to gain contact with I'm one of her abused kids whom would like to do a show or boot camp or something to find work with no om or dad responsible for my finances I'm in need of a responsible adult to contribute to my well being

well well well:
Anyone that reads this will know it's me by my own personal saying:
JID--which means 'JESUS IN DRAG'. The definition of JID is ''a supposedly Christian person dressing themselves up putting on airs pretending to be something they are NOT!"

Christians are supposed to represent themselves as much as possible living as Jesus would in modern day life. WWJD? Oprah, gee you must know a different Jesus than I do! Do u think Jesus would be living in a 53 million dollar mansion in chicago and that HE Gave us a home in Ca. 1.3 billion dollars and a yacht Vango in as of 08/2004 is worth 30 million? Oprah built a school for 20 million in AFRICA right after she had USA CHILDREN from your home town of Chicago on your show from 2 different schools switching places for a week. Then showed the horrific conditions of the black children's school-lead paint peeling off walls, walls/celings collapsing, no gym to have sports in?
Our Native American people are still living in the worst poverty of any group in the usa & have terrible diabetes because their diet is awful. They can't even afford to go to college. I don't mean the few pockets of rich Native American Indians that own the casinos--THEY ARE THE VERY MINOR Native Americans! I have seen it 1st hand. Then there are the Appalachian people.
When USA citizens/legal aliens all have medical insurance, can get their prescriptions filled, have jobs that aren't out-sourced overseas, our children can have decent everyday living conditions plus be fed 3 square meals a day and we don't have people homelessness then we can build 20 million dollar schools in other countries. Also, when so many people are against abortion yet are these people adopting children that are in orphanages, not just babies but older children and possibly racially mixed children or children with disabilities?
When people that say they wear their labels of Christians stop building Mcmansions, driving suv's, stop buying designer clothes/shoes/purses, etc. and living like Jesus would then we'll see.
Where are these people in these great big houses helping Hurrican Katrina victims -are they living in their mcmanions?

Gee Oprah, u need a reality check. R U speaking to a different God than the 1 most of us talk to?
Ask yourself why are we admiring these famous people?
Tom Cruise claims he lives 'just like everyone else'! Yet Oprah interviewed him in his gigantic home on huge acreage in Colorado. both of them having a wonderful giggling ride on their snow sleds riding into their winter wonderland of nirvana.
Why aren't most of these stars happy?
Jesus said, "Physician, heal thyself." and also, "It's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven." Wealth doesn't bring happiness and neither does fame. It's an elusive illusion.

Oprah, if u and others like u want to set a Christian example, why don't u sell all of your gigantic homes, yachts, suvs, jewels, whatever else and buy a smaller normal size home & give 90% of your wealth away to people in the USA that need it?
I bet they would commit suicide if they lost it all. Would their faith be as strong in God?Jesus as it is now? What would they do if they didn't have health insurance, were homeless, so ill they could not work and had nothing to fall back on? What would they do if they didn't get 3 square meals a day and had to go dig in garbage cans or eat at a homeless shelter? Would their faith be as strong?

What would they do if they were tested as Job was in the Bible?
Just something to think about.
bye for now!

it is so amazing how Americans live. Anyhow..nobody deserves to have all those houses or that much of a house. Its one thing having one or two moderate houses but Oprah is way beyond.
She is a good woman though..I like what she has done for South Africa and people else where.

lol...and OBAMA WON! YES WE DID!

The hateful comments above are crazy. Oprah does have a LOT of wealth; but she has worked hard for it, she was not born with the silver spoon. How can you hateful people begrudge her what she has worked for any more than your neighbor can begrude you what you have worked for? Everyone has diffrent goals and priorities in life. Oprah has made her mark as a unifier, informer and teaher. She has shared the wealth more than we the public may ever know; the genorisity we do know is far more than most can claim. She has a big heart and helps all she can. Before you bunch of grouches point any more fingers, look at yourself, what have you done lately???

Not sure why people have to be so hateful. Does Oprah need this large of a house? Probably not, but she has it. She is famous, she makes lots of money; she gives lots away. I don't particularly appreciate all she is about, and don't agree with a lot that she says but I don't feel the need to be hateful to anyone. The old saying, "if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say it" stands today.

Kudos to Oprah.

She pulled herself out of the ghetto using willpower and disciplined action. Why can't the black criminal class follow in Obama's and Oprah's foot steps instead of listening to garbage rap and dealing drugs and being on welfare?

It's too bad people have to hate on her. She deserves every bit of her success. Instead of hating on her, you people should work harder and smarter, just like she did.
