Clinton By Candlelight
Some 300 people gathered on Tuesday night at the Brentwood home of CAA's David O'Connor and his wife, Lona Williams, anxious to see the guest of honor, Bill Clinton.
Then the power went out --- in the entire neighborhood --- putting this Hillary Clinton fund-raiser into near total darkness.
The only light came from candles and some battery operated lanterns, which were shined on Clinton when he spoke in the backyard pool area. That helped, but it was still hard to see guests. And with no electricity, and therefore no microphone, it wasn't always easy to hear, according to a guest.
"There are a lot of great things about the modern world," Clinton said, according to the guest. "Predictable electricity may not be one of them."
Among those present, in addition to the hosts, were Steve Bing, Jerry Zucker, Ron Burkle, Frank and Carol Biondi and Gary Ross. Also present was Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who you can only guess had to endure some ribbing about the DWP. CAA's Michael Kives introduced the former president.
Not that it mattered, as Clinton delivered his pitch without missing a beat, emphasizing his wife's chief attributes as "the most qualified non-incumbent of my lifetime." He talked of his willingness to do whatever she asked him to do, although he doubted that would be a cabinet post, citing federal anti-nepotism laws.
Fittingly, a big chunk of Clinton's speech was about energy policy.

These multi-millionaires can't even get electricity from the government. We want to turn over our health care to these same incompetent morons?

A Canadian member of Parliament who has a breast tumor came to America for medical care. The newspaper tries to say that this does not mean that she does not trust the Canadian medical system. This is insulting, but the people of Canada can't seem to figure this out.
Don't be ignorant, they do not want to live under the system they expect us to live under. It is only about personal power, We have it now, they want it.

Posted by: Willy Brown | September 19, 2007 at 06:36 AM
Are you seriously attacking their lack of generator use? And JoeS, are you suggesting that the rich hold some kind of bargain with the DWP that would allow them to keep electricity? Do you think that Then they would be qualified to legislate health care?
C'mon... let's have a substantive argument.
At least make your post worth your time - and mine.

Hillary during her health care czar days when Bill was President, show their true spots. Part of her health care plan was to force doctors into certain medical specialities that would benifit the general population. Imagine if someone told Edision he could not be an Inventor, but it would be better for the sick that he work as a nurse. We would be in the dark today, and sometimes I think we are when it comes to the Clintons.

If the Canadian Health Care system is so good at saving lives ... how come Americans don't run accross the Canadian border for treatment ...
No it's the Canadians that run accross the American border for treatment and HILLARY-SCARE will destroy our quality of health.
HILLARYISM == Envy of Corporate Profits.
Envy of Healthy People.
Envy of American Prosperity.
Envy of Power.
Nazism == Envy of Corporate Profits.
Envy of Jewish prosperity.
Envy of youth and health.
Envy of Power.
Not much difference between Hillaryism and Nazism. Unions and teachers voted for the NAZIS ... and Unions and teachers will vote for Hillary.

Joe S - In regards to your "Canadian MP Going to the US for treament". This was not an issue about trust. In fact, that type of treatment was only available in California.
Health Care Mania - You need professional help. You must work for drug company or you are some type of lobbyist to be so delusional. Thank God Canadians provide health care to ALL of their citizens, not just the ones that can afford it.
Get your facts straight.

David Vitter, Larry Craig... Should I keep listing the names of the right wing hypocrites. At least Bill admitted he was wrong. He isn't perfect, but at least he wasn't campaigning (or voting) on certain "moral" issues and then doing the complete opposite.
Cigars anyone?

Please let us get pass Nixon and Clinton, they are the detestable people whom we elected as president. We just need to remember never to do that again. As in Hillary, Obama, Kerry, and McCain. Obama reminds me of Carter. A do-nothing, screw-it up liberal. Lets have a real presidental election with Zell Miller, Lieberman, Newt Gingrich, Fred Thompson and Giuliani. Ok Lieberman is a stretch but I was having problems finding a decent Democrat.

Bill Clinton is the sorriest excuse for a President we have ever had;....over the last 25 years he is responsible for the downward spiral of our youths morals. My children grew up under his governorship....and (their)Presidency and the only one thing to identify him with is his immorality and the kids consider him a joke. What does it say about the adults of this country who can still be anamored by these two after the damage that was done in the 90's to the moral fiber of this country.

SteveH, you have got to be kidding! At least Clinton admitted to it??? After 9 months of lying. Lying under oath to a Federal Judge. He was exposed when a wad of Bills showed up, that kind of identified the what 'IS' is in his no sex story. How about the other women that he assulted? The Bill and Hillary team put a squash on alot of those stories to keep them buttoned down. Made them out to be the bad guys 'er girls.

"Why don't we just name it Health Care for Mexico?" Correction, Health Care for Aliens, that would include people from third world countries all over the world. We allow 1 Million legals into this country every year and the world has 6 million babies. Are we going to bring every sick person in to this country and support their health care?? We would have to start stacking them up in the Grand Canyon to handle the millions that would flood the borders every year.

No one in the U.S. is denied health care. Whether a person can afford health insurance is the issue. They say over 45 million are with out health care, but doe s not cover the folks who have chosen to purchase it themselves. AND I am sure that it does not take into account the folks who make sure that their cell phone and cable TV bills are paid to date.

The morality issue on this string amazes me. Do this many people think lying about sex is more immoral than lying about violence?
Also about the Nixon thing. Nixon did do good things. He had goals and accomplishments. In this day and age I would welcome a Nixon back. I like him ten time mores than Bush.

USA has a health care system that provides free medical care to those who are willing to wait in line at the hospitals and clinics that offer it. Those who do not want to wait can go to another location and pay the cost (probably covered by insurance). The discussion should be on how to pay for the free service not if it is provided.

Most of the outages this summer in LA have been in the rich areas...they are the ones who use the most with their plasma tvs, air conditioning for dozens of rooms, etc. The infrastructure has never been upgraded, with some transformers and lines dating back 60 or more years, and the policy of the DWP is to repair when it blows.

I guess the Secret Service people guarding Bill were the ones with the flashlights - that's a pretty unusual situation to be in for them. But speaking of the spotlight being on Bill, I wonder what would happen if the Denver DNC deadlocked on Obama and Hillary and someone put his name forward. I think Democrats would vastly prefer him to his wife, As I understand the constitutional issues, once he has been out for qa full term, he can run again and even serve two more terms. In fact, I'm going to predict that's what will happen in Denver.

I bet it is a right wing conspiracy and that the US Government did it on purpose. Why was it that when the power did come back on no one could find slick willy??? He was hiding under some lady’s skirt.
As far as the PM of Canada coming down for cancer surgery, I wish her all the best and a fast recovery. I would not want to wish that on anyone.
Where is that Psycho Moore at??? I thought that Canada had one of the best medical systems in the world and that the US should follow their lead???
I GUESS NOT.

SteveH: Your ignorance seems to have been roundly criticized as it is, but I'll add a few things.
The Canadian MP flap: yes, the procedures is only available in California -- not Canada. But that's the whole point, Steve. When you have socialized medicine you remove the incentive for specialists. That's why people who need urologists, endocrinologists, etc are by and large out of luck or have to wait an obscene amount of time.
And yes, we've got some hypocritical Republicans who've been caught doing some naughty sh*t, but that's the difference between us, isn't it? A republican does something bad the party and the base shun him and he resigns: Nixon and Craig. But Democrats? You do something wrong and the base, the party, and the media back you all the way and cries "right wing conspiracy".

The lights are going out on this one-party dominance in the US gov't. Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great country.

The Canadian system only works for those that are young and healthy. My brother-in-law, now a US citizen recently from Canada, has had to sit back and watch his brother denied the 4way bypass he needed only to get a partial bypass and his father denied any care for 4 months after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He died for lack of treatment! He now damns the Canadian system since it killed his father!

I think if the government is forced by the liberals to create and maintain a nanny-state of cradle-to-grave health care, then it should require a mandatory military or civil service to the government in return. If you wanna play, you gotta pay!

Too few "get it", too few care: we are losing our freedoms, our sovereignty, and our national sensibilities. How? First we did away with the Hayes Act that prevented actors from cussing in the movies and showing skin and people in bed together.
Then the 60's came along and the liberals went nuts. The ACLU (incorporated in the 1930's as the American Communist Lawyers' Union ... look it up) has had a field day ever since slowly but surely doing its thing to undermine the moral structure of our country -- to bring about the ultimate defeat of this country from within (the Marxist/Stalinist pledge), to and create the ultimate socialist utopia.
We're darned near there, folks; no God in schools or public places; atheist's sensibilities and minority religions are held to be more important that those of the majority; diversity training (a liberal idea meant to 'unify' us) divides and fractures us more and more -- eliminating the idea of the great "melting pot" that America was meant to be; politicians who go to Washington to get rich and re-elected instead of to "serve" (what a quaint idea).
We need to go back to the idea of part-time representatives and senators (five months in DC, five months in their district, and two months off for good behavior), with NO retirement or health benefits. Strict term limits (two terms in and you're out, and no possibility for later re-election!)
We took away the dignity of people to plan for their own future by creating a social welfare state -- social security -- and now everyone demands it as a "right" (even illegal aliens), and it gives the government the right to over 15% of your paycheck with no accountability on their part. And congress has the nerve to tell you that you don't have the right to direct how even PART of that should be invested!
Contrary to the Constitution, congress enacted (but did not properly ratify...even though the courts have {illegally} upheld it...) an income tax, and we -- dumb sheep that we are -- continue to go along with it. Do we not remember 1776? Taxation without representation ring a bell? A LIBERTY BELL?? 50% of the populace pays no income tax, the rest of us pay 96% of ALL taxes. And EVERYBODY gets to vote.Where's the justice in that?
And some of you want to tax ME for YOUR health care, too? Give me a break. My employer and I pay for mine. That means I pay for it. You see, if my employer weren't offering me benefits, I could get that money in the form of a higher salary. Or, if not from him, I could get it somewhere else. That's the way the free marketplace works.
If you don't understand that, you probably went to a public school. I know, I teach at one. I go out of my way to augment the standard curriculum so my students graduate smarter than the average. I think they'll be grateful later on because they'll understand this kind of blog.
Liberal academia doen't want you or your children to understand how the system really works, that's why they dumb-down history, teach next to nothing about our founding documents, economic theory (except to make socialism sound "fair and equitable"), or real morality. But Earth Day!! Why isn't it a national holiday, for Gaia's sake??
The party machinery needs willing, compliant masses to do their bidding.
To keep control of non-existant 'trust-funds'.
To keep 'fooling the rubes' until they retire and all the problems are somebody else's problem.
To get parks and highways and bridges named after them.
To get all the perks they keep voting themselves.
To keep themselves in power.
I'm voting AGAINST every incumbant next election. I hope you do the same. Let's shake them to their boots, and take control of OUR government back!

And the Republicans wonder why they lost a bunch of seats in 2006. You morons here are perfect examples.
If some of you would read things other than Drudge headlines you would realize that Hillary's plan doesn't model Canada, but more successful programs in Germany and France.
Her plan will cut costs for you, the freaking middle class, and allow others in lower classes to have something that will improve our economy, cut back on the number of sick days lost in the workplace, as well as fix a system that is getting more and more expensive every day.
Most of you are happy with the status quo, an unwinnable war, health care costs getting out of control, sending out 12 million people that are vital to the economy...most of you need to look past 2007, and figure out where we are going to be in 2020.
The Democrats are the only people who even think beyond today, and sees what the world economy is going to be like in 20 years. And, yes, it is time to realize we live in a world economy and not a national economy.
You do realize your tax cuts are being paid for by the Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, and even the Mexicans. In order to pay for these tax cuts we are BORROWING money from countries that are our trade rivals.
How do you think that affects are foreign policy, when you can't bitch slap the people you are competing against, becuase you are borrowing money from them.
Use your heads people. Bill Clinton was the smartest and most affective President this country had seen in a long, long time. To not give him credit is just plain assinine.

"At least with Bush he does do what he say's he's going to do. With the Clintons, you have no idea until it's way to late."
Just like Hillary Care. We aren't being given the specifics, and if she is elected guess who will take care of the details?
" Clinton's top health-care policy adviser, told the Washington Post that Clinton would let Congress work out the details. "We're going to leave a lot of this to the congressional committees," she said.
So the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, chaired by Sen. Ted Kennedy, and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, chaired by Rep. John Dingell, will get to devise America's new health care system if Clinton becomes president."
"Hillary's plan doesn't model Canada, but more successful programs in Germany and France."
Universal Health Care is in trouble or failing everywhere it is in use. Just Google 'universal health care' and see for yourself. Democrats say some 45 million are without health care. 45% of those are illegal aliens. If about 85 percent of those remaining, have health care, we do not need a Universal Health Care. Do you smoke? Does drinking cause your health problems? Are you obese? Under Universal Health Care, you can be denied care unless you rid yourself of those habits that cause your health problems. Signup would be mandatory. That's why you'd need proof of health care to get a job. Say NO to Universal Health Care.
It is hugely expensive and doesn't work.

My grandmother liked to say that no political party could possibly have all the right ideas nor all the wrong ideas. Too many people place their party's success over their country's.

democrats/republicans today are just new age fascists
What the Nazis promised: state health care, state retirement income (social security), state unemployment benefits, state guaranteed wages (minimum wage), state nursery care, state feminist laws, and state gun control. Does this sound familiar? It should. The federal government, controlled by democrats, aided by pusillanimous republicans, has done it all. Find the democrat senator that brought Nazi gun laws to the U.S. here:

Politics is practicable application of philosophy. Philosophy is interpretive religion. Religion is the worship and service of God; or some other, or some system. Politics essentially defines who, what, and how people may worship---Evan Dimitroff.

RS,
First off, Hillary's forced health plan will cost me more money. I pay for my health care with cash. Now I'll have to pay into a plan to support idiots who don't take care of themselves. And suppose this plan did save me money. Where would this money come from? Will the Feds point a gun at my neighbors and take their money and give it to me? No thanks, I'm not a looter. As far as the huge debt we have, the last I looked, government revenues have increased every single year for the past 7 years. The problem is the liberals spending it all.

Hey SteveH...You say Clinton wasn't campaigning or voting on any moral issues at the time he and Monica made the exchange. I was under the impression he was still living under the vote all married men make when they say "I do."

I have just had the best set of laughs reading the posts in this comments section. Almost every comment is a malformed collection of partisan ideology and falsehoods - each twisted by the specific morality plays of the writer.
This is great material...

Okay about health care... Do the liberal minded forget that the medicaid program COVERS the poor who don't need to be covered. Most of the middle class get health care through their employers... However, the rich tend not to have health care and prefer to just pay out of pocket. Therefore, a health care program would not be beneficial to the poverty stricken and would in turn one of the bankrupting factors of our government. Not only that, but okay sure Canada's health care system is screwed...but look at the other countries of Europe, they are trying to get out of nationalized health care in hopes of privatization again because of such problems.
A three year wait for hemorrhoids to be treated in Britain; that's gotta be a painful desk job...

Wouldn't it have been great if Slick Willy was holding the electric wires when the lights went back on?
That would be almost as good as having Hillary sitting on his lap at that time.
High voltage would be a treat for them both.

No one died when Clinton got a hummer. But we did WASTE MILLIONS trying to investigate a spooge stain... but for all the lies Bush has told, we get no investigation..
I would rather have a guy that has a sex drive and can talk to people lead than a dullard that cant talk/read deciding to kill thousands for his buddies.

Also as a member of our Armed forces, I resent your attacks regarding bush and the killing of "thousands" for his buddies. Maybe all of you liberals should be signing up for what we do every day overseas. You, if you are still halfway able to control your own thoughts, would realize that the we're doing what we set out to do and it's not oil. Isn't it sad that the media did cover up the documentation outlining the WMDs and the fact that Russia helped move most of them? Also, how about the fact that our NBC units found chemical and biological weaponry that were isotopically dated to be younger than the 1998 UN Resolution barring their development in Iraq. It's amazing being in the armed forces and a trained geologist. I know how of those worlds (war and oil) work and let me tell you we're not putting them together.

I hate saying this, but as anyone who understands government and has had a Civics class in Junior High knows... The government CANNOT solve everyones problems. There are over 300 million people in this country and its ridiculous for us to expect this government to solve and to be able to afford to handle all of these problems. I come from a hardworking immigrant family and we bust our butts to make it in this country and accept our own fates. We are grateful to not live in the European hell my grandparents came from and will not ask for a handout in any way. Why has this country degraded itself so badly? Socialism is next and look what happened under Stalin... Didn't Hillary praise Stalin a few months ago? I heard a speech but it seemed to have been quickly covered up...
