Villaraigosa to Endorse Clinton

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will endorse Hillary Clinton on Wednesday at a UCLA event.

Villaraigosa's nod had been expected, given the close relationship he has with the Clintons, and there had been a lot of speculation last week that he would go public with his endorsement on her visit to Los Angeles this week.

Clinton will appear with the mayor before heading to Santa Monica for a fund-raiser at the home of Peter Chernin and another event in Beverly Hills at the home of Brett Ratner.

Villaraigosa's endorsement is regarded as important locally because he can tap into his connections with the Latino community, unions and with other city officials. A Clinton presidency would help Villaraigosa should he run for governor, because she would likely return the favor.
